History and other information :

The Brandenburg Gate would be incorporated in the design, for in addition to it being the symbol of Berlin, the heart of Germany, it was also the scene of massed S.A. torchlight parades past Hitler at the window of the chancellery on the evening of his appointment as Chancellor on 30th January 1933. After 1933, this day became a national holiday.

Brandenburg Gate: Constructed in sandstone by K.G. Langhaus 1788 – 1791, on a design after the Propylaea at Athens. It has five carriageways separated by Doric columns and the whole surmounted by a quadriga of Victory in copper, designed by Schadow (1794).
